Mustang, originally designed and built by a former Lincoln Manager, Roy C. McCarty, from 1948 through 1949, was a 6 seat rear engine sedan. The Muscle Car that we adore today, the Ford Mustang was originally designed to compete with Corvette. An outcry began to ring out with Ford fans as their T-bird slowly evolved into a sports sedan, rapidly loosing it's sex appeal. Mustang was the answer, a sexy little sports car with plenty of power. Mustangs prototypes were met with much enthusiasm giving Ford a great expectation of how popular the Mustang was going to be. But Ford was wrong, a curse that has followed Ford since old Henry, Ford was wrong. Ford geared up to meat a large demand for it's new Mustang, and they were wrong, large was not enough, the public wanted the Mustang and they made it quite evident, no car to date has ever sold as much on a first year production run, and the back orders made it quite obvious that they could have sold more. Mustang continues today to turn milestones, continuing their legacy and unquestionably increasing their desirability with marquess no less then Shelby, Boss, Mach I, Seabring, Cobra, and the 5.0.
