This is a 1956 McCormick FARMALL 400 with a Torque Amplifier. (Was a Super M, the previous Year, I believe). Tractor was delivered new, May 6, 1956 from a McCormick Farmall Dealer in Burton, Michigan, just outside of Flint, Mi.
It has a 5 speed manual shift transmission, capable of 16.7 miles per hour on the road with the Torque Amplifier disengaged.
The engine is a McCormick 4 cylinder, 4 inch bore with 264 cubic inches with a PTO of 537 r.p.m at full load with the TA disengaged (Sorry, can't tell you the PTO Torque lbs). Engine operates at 1,450 r.p.m. at full load.
I don't remember that the axle ratio applied to tractors, that where regular farm tractors.
This one has not been redone and so is looking old, but I hope to pull it apart and rebuild the engine, all new gaskets, and then repaint and re-label it. Many of the decorations are in chrome metal rather than stickers/decals. I have a 1948 Farmall Cub, (Original and inherited from my Father that does have the decals. Serial number 70485
I did take the pictures of Sherry on/around my tractor. She would not drive it though. Would have loved to had her driving across the field with the big disc on the back, in the all together (nude). Suggested that she might like the feel of the gear shift on certain locations (HA HA).
