Bare Metal Bus

edFox is famous for two things, well maybe three. edFox is probably most known for his work with Penthouse, Club, Leg Show, and Barley Legal Magazines. Although I am not sure I know why he would be known for that, none of us read those do we? However he is probably less known as a man of passion for one great ride, his Bare Metal Bus, a 1960 VW Double Cab, bus / pickup that he brought back from the dead with his own two hands. That is edFox not only owns his Bare Metal Bus, but he restored, modified, and hand finished every square inch of her metal body. The Bare Metal Bus, moderately famous in her own right has even made cover vehicle herself, Super VW Magazine, and published in, not unsurprisingly, Club Magazine. And thirdly, edFox is moderately infamous for showing his Bare Metal Bus at the VW Classic, an all VW California car show, with a model suspended in the bed (pictured left). The Spoil Sports, oh Officials, did ask him to leave, but it is still well remembered years later. edFox says, now when people see his bus at the shows, their always asking, where's the girls?

Stolen
Grand Theft Auto

A couple of clowns once decided they wanted edFox's bus more than he did, or that they had more rights to her, well they were wrong on both counts. No doubt a 1960 VW Double Cab is worth a pretty penny in parts... edFox had dreamed of owning a Volkswagen bus ever since he first saw one as a kid, and was none to happy about loosing her. Doing a little detective work on his own he found an ad offering parts for sale in The Recycler, a newspaper in California dedicated to classifieds. Following up on the ad edFox did indeed find identifiable parts to his VW bus, not there, but the gentleman thought his friend might have all the parts edFox was asking for. As any of us who work on cars know there are little dings or scratches in any vehicle, that may annoy us at the time, but are most certainly remembered when seen in a parts pile. Now positive he found at least part of his stolen bus he asked if they could wait for him to run to the ATM to get some money. A quick call on his cell to the Police and these thieves finally had a bad day. (pictured to the right)

Inspiration

Rambling around in a parts store edFox found this simple hub cap, a mid fifties vintage hubcap that someone had obviously felt worth enough to clean up even after it's paint or chrome had long been gone. Indeed it was worth something, although maybe not for the reason they thought. edFox wanted something different for his bus, something that would make her very identifiable, make her stand out in a crowd. This hub cap was his inspiration. Simple, and Bare Metal, and nicely sanded.
