A DA as any air tool is doomed to fail, some sooner then others with those cheap carbon fiber blades that break like the pencil led they are made of. Anyhow, like any tool that no longer works, it is junk in rout only to the trash can, so any results are better than throwing them away. Of course with Air Tools I will typically try Air Tool Conditioner as the tool may be just swamped or gunked up and the conditioner will often clean her out. But in the case of my DA she was just wore out, I could hold the pad dead stop at full bore and she didn't fight me at all.

I had just picked this DA up at a Pawn Shop, so I could have returned her, but... I have all of these junk TV's laying around... |
|
DA Circuit Board: I but removed the circuit board from one of the TV's. Most any circuit board will work, junk TV's is just what I had at the moment. But I like computer circuit boards the best as they are thick enough that I usually have to thin them down to move easily in the slot, ah, but I'm getting ahead of myself. |
I don't normally give advice, typically just illustrating how I did this or that, but here I will make an exception. In this picture above take note of the large black thing in the lower left corner. That little coil holds enough voltage to kill the average human, and it can hold that voltage for days after the TV has been unplugged. Ok, so it is Amperage that kills, not the voltage, but you get the drift, deadly. Maybe that is one more reason to use a computer circuit board.

DA Cleaned Circuit Board: I scrape the components off with a light hammer and a gasket scraper, then grind the circuit board smooth, trying not to make her too thin or uneven (wavy). I had already cut off another piece of this board, but scored another slice just for illustration. I score a rough line across the board to aid in breaking the board, and although the sections with pin holes will work I prefer to find sections that have no holes. |
|
DA Cut Circuit Board: This is the piece from which I will cut my blades, it is a little wider then what my blades will need to be tall, and I have cleaned up the edges some. |
|
DA Grinder: I then score and break or cut the blades, again leaving them bigger then I need them, then gently grind them to size and shape them. |
|
DA Replacement Blade: The finished blade, I like to bevel my edges to give less of a wear point, my finished DA blade being barely shorter then the drum, and just wide enough that it easily falls into the closest part of the cam, but is yet as wide as possible. |
That simple and my DA is as strong as an Ox, no holding her back now. Time to get back to some Body Work :) All in all, I just saved one and a part of something else from going to the trash, as well as kept a good bit of doe in my pocket, oh the pocket was empty anyhow, so what, what else is new. Oh and on that subject of Bodywork, for the rest of that circuit board, remember circuit boards make great patch panels, glue them in place with a little fiberglass resin and walla, one hole patched.
WARNING: As with anything I do, my work holds hidden or obvious dangers. A novice, pro, or even I could loose a finger, a hand, or a life, so the best advice I can give is don't do it. All work is dangerous, of course so is the air we breathe, the food we eat. People have even killed themselves just trying to get out of bed. Regardless I would rather no one ever got hurt, and I do hope you learn from my successes and failures, but I am not willing to take responsibility for your accidents, or misunderstanding, or what ever.
